In the opening round of qualifying at the $125,000 PEOPLEnet Cup (Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine), fifth-seeded Alberto showed his mettle as he roared back from a huge first set deficit as he defeated Oleg Dolgosheyev (UKR) in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

The match started out in woeful fashion as Alberto immediately fell behind in the first set and things looked bleak.  Trailing 1-4 and facing a break point to go down 1-5, Berto refused to give in as he fought back to save break point and ultimately held his serve.  Still down a break at 2-4, Alberto turned up the heat as he broke Dolgosheyev to put the set back on serve.  Serving at 3-4, Alberto produced a strong service game to even the count at 4-all.  Now hitting on all cylinders, Berto continued to put the pressure on Dolgosheyev and it resulted in yet another break of serve.  With the set on his racquet at 5-4, Alberto closed the deal as he held serve to take the set 6-4.

In the second set, Alberto was in complete control as he jumped on Dolgosheyev with an early break of serve.  Berto never looked back as he completed the straight set win 6-4, 6-4.  With the victory, Alberto faces the winner of the matchup between Johan Brunstrom (SWE) and Dania Arsenov (RUS) in a second-round contest later this evening.
